The usual path runs in one direction: Photo AI first, then Gigapixel. Export a clean, sharpened file from Photo AI, then let Gigapixel handle the final enlargement. The reverse order fails on the noise, because the upscale stage amplifies the grain instead of removing it. Four caveats matter before you commit:
Your repair stack disappears
Moving from Topaz Photo AI to Gigapixel means losing the built-in denoise and sharpen stages. Gigapixel only enlarges — it does not clean the file.
Workaround: run the file through Photo AI first, then enlarge the clean export in Gigapixel.
Noise compounds when you upscale first
If a noisy file goes straight into Gigapixel, the noise is enlarged along with the detail, and the 6× result looks worse than the original at 100%.
Workaround: pre-clean with a denoiser, or switch to Photo AI, which denoises before it enlarges.
Settings and presets do not carry over
Photo AI's auto-pilot decisions and model preferences live in that app. Gigapixel keeps its own defaults, so the first batch after a switch needs a full settings pass.
Workaround: save a Gigapixel preset from your first good result and reuse it on later batches.
You are buying a second license
Both are separate Topaz Labs products. Moving between them is a new purchase, not a module you toggle inside one app.
Workaround: none — both apps offer a fully functional trial, so you can test the switch before committing.
The same source file, enlarged to the same size. The left frame keeps the grain; the right frame runs the complete denoise-sharpen-upscale stack first. For genuinely clean files the difference shrinks — which is why Gigapixel still has a lane.
